Fred Meyer needed to renovate a store in Bellevue Washington the required the closure of the entire location. In an effort to inform patrons in a professional and caring voice, I built a mini site that detailed the length of the closure, where the next closest Fred Meyer locations were and a “X2 Rewards Points” program.
Mood Boards, Wire-frames, Web Design, Prototype
Fred Meyer wanted to keep the site inline with the existing Fred Meyer brand. A bright color palette with colorful imagery along with some fun loving typography was used to create an optimistic feel. The voice was cheerful and pointed towards the benefits of the renovation rather than sounding apologetic for the inconvenience.
Short and to the point. The site was a simple one but Fred Meyer only had a general idea of what the mini site would include. A few very quick wireframes unfolded a plan to show a countdown timer, alternative locations and coming improvements.
Bright colors, fun and bold typography, and appealing imagery paired with goal oriented verbiage redirected the inconvenience of the closure to the benefits of the improvements. The layout was simple for fast readability.
This step was not necessary for this particulars project.
I built Fred Meyers mini site using HTML, CSS, Javascript, WordPress and Bootstrap. The site was responsive and cross browser compatible back to IE8. The small size of the site made load times quite fast.
I used illustration to create an interesting supporting graphic that was fun, subtle and professional. The use of illustration was inspired by the lack of access to quality photography for the project.
